The DX320 features a BD34301EKV DAC chip, which is part of ROHM's high-grade MUS-IC™ series, which represents the pinnacle of audio ICs, prioritises spatial reverberation, 'quietness', and 'dynamic range', all of which are crucial for reproducing all types of music. Original sound quality design technology allows for the successful replication of the desired natural sound reproduction. At the same time, the exceptional performance expected by high-quality audio equipment is provided by a class-leading low noise and distortion (130dB SN ratio, -115dB THD+N). iBasso painstakingly designed circuits and implemented this DAC on the DX320 to bring out all of the BD34301EKV's best features. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor powers the DX320. The operation in the field of digital music players is remarkable, thanks to the powerful performance of this 14-nanometer 8-core CPU! There is enough capacity for a consistent and fast response with 6GB RAM, and the 128GB of inbuilt storage space and an external Micro SD card slot makes it easy to install more apps and store lossless files like MQA, APE, FLAC, WAV, ACC, ALAC, AIFF, OGG, MP3, DFF, DSF, DXD, and DST. MODULAR DESIGN WITH REPLACEABLE AMP CARDS & DIGITAL POWER SUPPLIES WITH PATENTED DUAL BATTERY POWER SUPPLY STRUCTURE
The power system is one of the most crucial components of a player, as it determines the sound quality. The transient power supply is critical for SoC (System On Chip), DAC, amplifiers, and other components. When a single battery powers the entire system, the digital and analogue components may be subjected to high current demands, causing distortion resulting in a loss of sound quality. The DX320 employs a patented dual battery system, with separate batteries powering the AMP and digital sections. The independent battery delivers enough power to assure the AMP section's stability, as well as isolating digital section interference for improved overall sound quality. This design ensures that the analogue component of the player receives exceptionally clean DC, allowing the AMP section to reach its full potential. The AMP Card Design is replaceable, allowing additional diversity, individuality, and pleasure in your music. There are currently discrete AMP11 Mk2 and super-class AMP cards available. Nutube AMP13, as well as a discrete balanced AMP card AMP12, will be listed soon. You don't need to change the player; replace the amp card, and you may pick between a sharp and crisp transistor AMP or a vivid tube sound quality. The maximum output current of the transistor reaches 2A, which allows the AMP11 MK2s to drive IEMs and headphones that require high current with ease. The maximum voltage output of iBasso DX320 achieves 7.1Vrms, and thanks to the independent battery power supply, the output power of 32 Ohm load is as high as 1200mW! The AMP11 MK2s were tuned with electrolytic and film capacitors, including the new unique iBasso Premium AI foil audio capacitor, to provide the best match with the iBasso DX320. You'll be surprised to learn that iBasso engineers created an APK just for tweaking your audio with a graphic EQ and professional parametric EQ. You may tweak and find your trademark sound with these customization options at your fingertips. The Mango player APK, which was built in-house, combines the EQ algorithm that iBasso has accumulated over the years.

With the introduction of wireless technology, the world has gone surreal for streaming music without having to deal with the annoyance of wires. The engineers created the DX320 with Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities so that consumers can stream music wirelessly. Thanks to an upgraded internal antenna, the DX320 provides outstanding coverage. The 5G WiFi features a 2x2 MIMO WiFi antenna architecture with two input and two output channels, allowing faster data transmission. The DX320 has Bluetooth 5.0 capability, as well as an improved antenna that allows for longer transmission distances and stronger signals. The engineers at iBasso used and developed their FPGA-Master technology in-house for the DX320. As the audio system controller, the FPGA-Master demands audio data directly from the SoC (System On Chip)and plays a critical role in signal reproduction and integrity. It uses two Accusilicon femtosecond oscillators to synchronise and generate all audio clocks at the same time, resulting in a fully synchronised single clock source. The DX320 runs on the latest Android 11 operating system. The DX320 is in the vanguard of HiFi players due to its rapid system response and smoothness. I auditioned this DAP at a friends place on my Audeze Euclid and instantly fell for the sound signature. I came back home that day and ordered it from HPZ on the 5th Feb 2023 (Sunday). On the 6th Feb 2023 (Monday) I got a call from Varun Damani from HPZ stating that a sale will be held on from the 7th Feb 2023 onwards and DX320 will be a part of that list and so we are knocking off 10k on the price. He said that he will be crediting 10k back to my account. SWEET!! So I got the sale price 2 days before the sale and this should tell you something about HPZ. Kudos!!
DAPs and Me: As I mentioned before this wasn’t a blind purchase. I auditioned it before and ordered it as soon as I reached home after the meet at a friend’s place. I am usually reluctant to buy an audio gear with a battery in it and hence I have owned only one DAP since 2016 as I didn’t really feel a need to upgrade. So, you can imagine that was not an easy decision but surprisingly I took it almost instantly.
Background: I have auditioned some heavy weights before this the DX320 like RS8, P6 Pro, N8ii and SP2KT to name a few. I mentioned these to tell you from where I am coming from. While I still think P6 Pro is the best most believably real sounding DAP, I just couldn’t justify the cost. N8ii comes very close to P6 Pro but just doesn’t carry that organic vocal presentation. DX320 with its stock AMP11 MK2 comes very close to the performance of P6 Pro at half its cost but have a far more usable UI and Android support. The advantage DX320 has over the N8ii is that the former is modular. You can swap out the amp section with something discrete like AMP12, single ended tube AMP13 or balanced tube AMP14. In N8ii you have all that in the DAP already so you end up paying more for thing you may never need.
Sound: With the stock firmware 2.03, this DAP sounds like my reference system which I use with speakers only with a little colour of overtones, enhanced reverb and the best non fatiguing highs I have ever heard (Better than N8ii for sure). This gives the sound a far bigger presentation and layering than even my reference system. Soundstage however is not as wide as N8ii or P6 Pro but has better depth and layering that the two. Music doesn’t sound like a playback but a performance in reality and a lot many times I got the feeling of my Euclids disappearing like speakers often do in a well-treated room.
Sounds great right? However, there are a few issues.
a) When I upgraded to the latest 2.05, the sound changed and became more reference like. This is probably to integrate AMP14 which is tube based. So, firmware upgrade may change the sound quite a lot.
b) The volume wheel is not the best.
c) It has 6000mh battery but it has 4000mh for Digital(Dual DACs+Processor+RAM+FPGA) and 2000mh for amp in a dual battery configuration. This is good because of isolation and now you can go crazy on amp and/or digital design (Which ibasso has by putting 2 desktop DACs in it) but it also means that one of the batteries is going to offset the relevance of the other. In my test, the digital battery lasts close to 9-9.5 hours of continuous playback in MangoOS and 6-6.5 hours of Android streaming with Tidal. While the digital battery gets depleted, the amp battery still remains strong at say 40-50% but its irrelevant since there cannot be any playback. Things gets reversed when this DAP is being used in DAC mode. I used it with my iPad and streamed Apple Music. In this scenario, the amp battery ran out faster that the digital one but the overall playback time was close to 20hours since the iPad was supplying both the battery. In short, in DAP mode, don’t expect more than 9 hours of playback.
Its performance is still far far far more worth it people, so don't get dishearten by the cons and audition this beauty if possible.
