Is it compatible with IEMs that have a sunken design for top end connections?
No, it is not compatible with IEMs that have a sunken top-end connectors.
How to connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth transmitting devices like mobile phones/players?
Take mobile phones as an example. When the FiiO UTWS5 first starts pairing with a mobile phone, it needs to enter the pairing state when the indicator light of the charging case will flash white. In the mobile phone, enter the menus of Setting-> Bluetooth-> Click FiiO UTWS5 to complete the connection.
【2 methods to make the UTWS5 enter pairing state】
Method 1: Keep the FiiO UTWS5 inside the charging case. Long-press the multifunction button of the charging case for 3 seconds. The indicator light of the charging case flashing in red and white alternately means the FiiO UTWS5 is in pairing state.
Method 2: First connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth device A. Turn off device A's Bluetooth or click Settings->Enter pairing state in the FiiO Music/Control App to connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth device B.
Notes:
1.When the charging case is opened over 3 minutes, the FiiO UTWS5 will no longer respond to any commands of the multifunction button of the case. So please keep the FiiO UTWS5 in the case and operate it within valid time.)
2. Bluetooth pairing
① In the Bluetooth list of the Bluetooth device, search for 'FiiO UTWS5 L/R' and then click it. (Only the name of the Master channel will be displayed on the list).
② When pairing, there will be 2 dialogues popping up. Click 'Yes' successively to complete the pairing. (Bluetooth devices supporting TWS+ only need to pair once).
What can be done if the left and the right ear units are disconnected? How to clear pairing?
If there is only one channel that can be connected while the other is disconnected, it is suggested to clear pairing.【How to clear pairing】Keep the ear hooks inside the charging case. After opening the case lid, hold the multifunction button of the case for 12s. The ear hook will first turn off and then turn on when the left and right ear hooks will complete the pairing automatically. the middle of the indicator light flashing alternately in red and white means the FiiO UTWS5 is in pairing mode.
What shall be noted when we we use wirless charging?
When using wireless charging, try to place the FiiO UTWS5 charging case in the middle of the charging base. Support mobile phone reverse charging, the maximum power is 5W;
Wireless charging that supports Qi wireless charging protocol can charge the charging case of FiiO UTWS5.
Phone calls and microphones of the FiiO UTWS5
Either the left or right channel can be separately used for phone calls- single click the button of the ear hook to answer a call, while long press to hang up.
Both of the ear hooks have featured dual microphones processed by advanced CVC noise-cancelling technology. allowing the FiiO UTWS5 for clear calls with ambient noise restricted.
Is the FiiO UTWS5 waterproof?
Both the mesh of the microphones and the button position was added with a water-resistant sound-permeable cotton. And the joint position used glue. The overall design is IPX4-grade water-resistant. Therefore, it is freed from water and sweat.

No, it is not compatible with IEMs that have a sunken top-end connectors.
How to connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth transmitting devices like mobile phones/players?
Take mobile phones as an example. When the FiiO UTWS5 first starts pairing with a mobile phone, it needs to enter the pairing state when the indicator light of the charging case will flash white. In the mobile phone, enter the menus of Setting-> Bluetooth-> Click FiiO UTWS5 to complete the connection.
【2 methods to make the UTWS5 enter pairing state】
Method 1: Keep the FiiO UTWS5 inside the charging case. Long-press the multifunction button of the charging case for 3 seconds. The indicator light of the charging case flashing in red and white alternately means the FiiO UTWS5 is in pairing state.
Method 2: First connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth device A. Turn off device A's Bluetooth or click Settings->Enter pairing state in the FiiO Music/Control App to connect the FiiO UTWS5 to Bluetooth device B.
Notes:
1.When the charging case is opened over 3 minutes, the FiiO UTWS5 will no longer respond to any commands of the multifunction button of the case. So please keep the FiiO UTWS5 in the case and operate it within valid time.)
2. Bluetooth pairing
① In the Bluetooth list of the Bluetooth device, search for 'FiiO UTWS5 L/R' and then click it. (Only the name of the Master channel will be displayed on the list).
② When pairing, there will be 2 dialogues popping up. Click 'Yes' successively to complete the pairing. (Bluetooth devices supporting TWS+ only need to pair once).
What can be done if the left and the right ear units are disconnected? How to clear pairing?
If there is only one channel that can be connected while the other is disconnected, it is suggested to clear pairing.【How to clear pairing】Keep the ear hooks inside the charging case. After opening the case lid, hold the multifunction button of the case for 12s. The ear hook will first turn off and then turn on when the left and right ear hooks will complete the pairing automatically. the middle of the indicator light flashing alternately in red and white means the FiiO UTWS5 is in pairing mode.
What shall be noted when we we use wirless charging?
When using wireless charging, try to place the FiiO UTWS5 charging case in the middle of the charging base. Support mobile phone reverse charging, the maximum power is 5W;
Wireless charging that supports Qi wireless charging protocol can charge the charging case of FiiO UTWS5.
Phone calls and microphones of the FiiO UTWS5
Either the left or right channel can be separately used for phone calls- single click the button of the ear hook to answer a call, while long press to hang up.
Both of the ear hooks have featured dual microphones processed by advanced CVC noise-cancelling technology. allowing the FiiO UTWS5 for clear calls with ambient noise restricted.
Is the FiiO UTWS5 waterproof?
Both the mesh of the microphones and the button position was added with a water-resistant sound-permeable cotton. And the joint position used glue. The overall design is IPX4-grade water-resistant. Therefore, it is freed from water and sweat.

Been using it for a week, and here are my thoughts on the fiio UTWS5.
Comfort is great. Hooks are made of rubber with a metal core which makes it sturdy yet flexible. You can twist and turn the hook the shape of your ear and it will retain the shape. Balance and overall weight is awesome. Zero fatigue with it on my ears for 5+ hours.
I might not be the best judge of sound quality as it sounds as good as the fiio BTR3K DAC I use. These sound great! And have enough power to drive not just IEMs but headphones !!
With 1.72 firmware update, it gets PEQ, LDAC support. Dream pairing with IEM of your choice and tune it to your heart’s content. Currently using it with Moondrop aria, and I plan to upgrade to 7hz timeless planars.
However , there are a few niggles. If you change eq , sometimes it does not get applied to both sides. Hence you’re left with a very noticeable tuning imbalance. Easy fix is to keep switching eq multiple times until it’s applied properly.
Also, it has issues pairing with multiple devices. I have not got it to work without having to switch off Bluetooth from previous device.
If you can get around the minor issues, I would recommend this to anyone who would want to make their favourite IEMs wireless as these have plenty of power to drive the most demanding of planar IEMs . With multiple custom EQ profiles to be set, you can easily switch to tuning preference if your choice. And it’s also got transparency mode which is useful to be aware of surroundings.
From purely a sound quality perspective, there is nothing like it. However due to above issues I cannot recommend this to a user who is looking for hassle free consistent operation.
Pro tip: get the mmcx version and use a mmcx to 2pin connector by OE (from linsoul) . This will ensure you can use almost any IEM.
I never thought anything could replace a wired system until I used this. Absolutely superb. Fantastic soundstage, sounds rich. More than enough power to drive my IEMs. Thoroughly enjoying using them. Battery life is pretty decent. For calls, I personally wouldn't use them much as the mic is not great at all. But then this is not the primary purpose of this unit so that's fine.
All in all, a great product. Much needed for those who have a big IEM collection and wish to enjoy the quality of the IEM with the freedom of Bluetooth!

The UTWS5s are a really good pair of bluetooth modules, endless battery and very good sound quality. I've had no issues with the bluetooth connectivity, and seamless connection every time.
One issue is the comfort, which is not too bad, but also not perfect. I've seen reviews that say a right angle adapter can help this issue, and am now on the look out for this.
Also I wish MMCX to 2 Pin adapters were given in case, but considering how good these are I will have no hesitation to buy another pair for my 2-Pin IEMs.
